Church reviews is glad to present an excellent review of the Brooklyn Tabernacle located in downtown Brooklyn in New York City.  The Brooklyn Tabernacle is a megachurch that is nondenominational and evangelical at heart.  Its very name resonates and ears throughout the world.  Many people associate the Brooklyn Tabernacle with its well-known choir named the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir.

Some may be surprised that the Brooklyn Tabernacle was initially called the Central Presbyterian Church in 1847.  Then in 1966, the church changed its name to the Brooklyn Gospel Tabernacle.  Unfortunately, by 1971 only 40 church members remained.  Then amazingly, in the 1980s, the Brooklyn Tabernacle purchased a large theater and renovated it into a church.  From here, the Brooklyn Tabernacle choir rose to fame as people were able to sit in the theater seats and listen to the fantastic music of this fantastic choir.  By 2017 the church membership outgrew to over 10,000 members.

The Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir is directed by Pastor Jim Cymbala’s wife named Carol Cymbala.  The choir travels extensively throughout the United States and throughout the world.  They have held tours and Ghana, Africa, throughout Europe, and in different parts of Asia.  The choir has received six Grammy awards and sang “the Battle hymn of the Republic” at the 2013 second inauguration of the then-president Barack Obama.  The Gospel impacts have been tremendous both from the church in the choir.  People are drawn to the music and lyrics that bring the listener to a place of worship!

The Brooklyn Tabernacle still operates and has three to our services weekly.  The services are open to the public, and people from all over the world become partakers of one of New York city’s most wonderful ministries.  The church remains to this day and at the former Loew’s Metropolitan theater, which the church purchased in 2002.
